Supported Internships

Supported Internships are structured study programmes designed for 16 to 24-year-olds with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), helping them gain the skills and confidence needed to move into paid employment.

Delivered in partnership with local education providers, this initiative aligns with NHS England’s equality and inclusion vision by widening access to meaningful careers in health and care.

At Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, the Health and Care Academy works closely with the Supported Internship programme to welcome young adults with SEND into our workforce. Each intern receives tailored support from our Training and Practice Education Team, building their skills, experience, and readiness for future job opportunities.
